Join Joe Toscano at the IASIU seminar this year in Red Rock Resort in Nevada September 12 through 15, 2016.  Joe will be presenting “The Critical Need for Insurers to Evaluate their Current Fire Loss Investigation Practices” with Matthew Smith of Smith, Rolfes & Skavadhal Company.

SIU investigators have a fiduciary responsibility to the policy holder to comply with and understand the ramifications of not remaining current on new laws, standards, rules and court decisions that influence the investigation of a fire claim. This presentation will shift the paradigm from insurers defending “bad faith” claims to show how they acted in “good faith” in order to proactively address the potential for bad faith claims. This can only be accomplished with a thorough understanding of the issues confronting the insurance professional including; understanding Sarbanes Oxley, certifications & accreditation, influence of NFPA 1033 & 921, proper vetting of experts, Daubert and understanding the importance of Methodology, Validation and Reliability. Attendees will be provided with suggestions and recommended practices to prevent them from becoming the next court case. We will also provide an overview of the work of the International Association of Arson Investigators Training and Membership Advisory Committee to provide better training opportunities and communication between the IAAI and the insurance industry.
